Entrepreneur Maria Wills is a woman of many talents she is the owner of Self-Explanatory Products, Host, Singer, Songwriter, Model, Creator of Spotlight Tuesdays, and Media Correspondent for Girl Power Hour Radio. Maria is the definition of Smart is so Sexy. We were able to ask her some questions that you may love.
(SISS) Hi Maria, We know your work from instagram, and we love your strength and inspiration, but can you tell us where are you from and where are you currently spending your time? What College/Colleges did you attend? I was born in Washington, DC and raised in Prince Georges County, MD. I currently reside in Atlanta, GA. I went to Drexel University for Music Industry in Philadelphia, PA. (SISS) What was the hardest thing that you had to do in your life (something that you are willing to share? What advice would you give someone going through the same struggle? I like to think that we all struggle. The hardest thing I’ve had to do in my life is, accept the fact that I was a single parent and my family life was not as I planned it to be. I also had to struggle with balancing motherhood and entrepreneurship. It can be a challenge following your passion when you are responsible for someone other than yourself. It is easy to become discouraged and take what feels like the easy way out with a 9-5. But the same thing that gives me fear also keeps me going. My advice would be to keep striving for what you love and your passion. (SISS) What are you most grateful for in your personal life? I am grateful for my daughter and the support I receive from family and friends. I am also grateful that God let me recognize my passions at a young age. I never was confused about what I wanted to do in life.
(SISS) At Smart is so Sexy we love to see women who are thriving in their career or business. As a woman who also model and act, do you experience any struggles in those fields with male dominance or discrimination when it comes to pay or treatment or roles? As a businesswomen at time it can be hard to be taken seriously in a male dominant field. As an attractive woman it is important to make your intentions clear. I have to make sure I am professional and on point at all time.
(SISS) Who was the most influential person in your life? Any mentors? And how influential have they been? The most influential women in my life has always been my mother. My mother has overcome more than many and I grew looking up to her. She has always been hardworking and the most beautiful woman to me. She made me believe I could do anything I wanted in this life. So I was fearless. (SISS) Where were you five years ago? What advise would you tell your five years younger self? How was your College experience? Five years ago my heart was set on family. I would've advised myself to stay focus on my vision and to continue to work on my goals. Family and career can be balanced when you have the right partnership. My college experience was fun and motivating. I started my company my first year of college. (SISS) Can you take us through a typical day? From Waking up to going to bed, Can you give us a play by play of a typical day for you? I wake up to daily devotional. I get my daughter ready for school and drop her off. I grab a coffee and get to work. I check my schedule for the next couple days and my emails for any additional work I may have to schedule. I then update my website IamMariaWills.com. I do any research on anyone I am interviewing or events, I look up any information that can assist with my celebrity gossip segment on Time 2 Shine radio. I usually have lunch meetings. I picked up my daughter by 6 and have dinner, teatime, and bedtime. If I have an evening event my mothers comes to watch my daughter. I am a night owl and most creative late night early morning, so I am usually writing music or planning events at this time.
(SISS) What's your current vision for your life? And what do you want your legacy to be? My current vision is to expand my Brand and business. I want my legacy to be a successful businesswoman who inspired others. Someone who achieved her dreams while balancing family and career.
(SISS) There are probably many things but what is the one thing you want to see from our next president (an important issue to you)? I want to see compassion from our next President. I want to see movement towards the betterment of all people in the USA. I want to feel proud of my leader as I do with President Barack Obama. (SISS) How do you feel about “Perception is Reality”? Especially when people see a photo and assume what they want. Does that bother you that people may think less of someone because of the clothes they have on? Do you think women should be mindful of the image that they are portraying? I think that everyone (women and men) should be true to themselves and not rely on others actions nor opinions to determine how they move. I don't think a book can be judged by it’s cover. There is always a reason for someone’s decisions. In this society, I think you should be mindful of everything you do from image to actions.
(SISS) What is your favorite book? What is your favorite Food? When do you feel the sexiest? What was the craziest or riskiest thing that you ever did in your life? My favorite book is Addicted by Zane. I love fun novels lol. My favorite food is a big slice of NY style pepperoni pizza or crab cakes. I feel sexiest when I can get all dolled up for one of my events or when completing a challenging business venture. The craziest risk that I have taken is starting my event Spotlight Tuesdays open mic night in Atlanta, Ga. I am not a promoter, but I love live music and I wanted to bring my idea of soul to the city. (SISS) Who in this world right now is a definition of greatness and why? My definition of greatness is of our FLOTUS Michelle Obama! She is beautiful, intelligent, articulate, and empowering. She inspires others to be the best them! She makes me feel like myself and my daughter can do anything in this world. (SISS) Social media question, Facebook, twitter, instagram or snapchat? Which one do you use the most?
