" VIA desireedeliamua.com/about (SISS) Hi Desireé, where are you from and where are you currently spending your time? (Desireé) I am a New Yorker! ☺ Currently I am busy working on a number of projects collaborating with a variety of public personalities helping them look and feel their very best: it ranges from make-up tutorials to public conversations on how we can go out into the world looking and feeling our very best. As well, I’m continuing to promote my book “Create Your Own Makeup Image”, where it invites the reader to explore and experiment on ideas of beauty and use of the mindfulness towards a more confident self. (SISS) What was one of the hardest things that you had to go through? What advice would you give someone going through the same struggle? (Desireé) I think the entrepreneurial nature of my work can be at once extremely rewarding and really scary, as you only have yourself to rely upon. But it’s in that act of self-reliance that you also find those who truly want to support you and see you succeed. It’s also through this process that you start understanding what you alone are capable of and what you, in collaboration with other similarly determined people can achieve together. (SISS) Professional Makeup Artist | Founder of @thebeautydexproject | Author #CYOMI #SISS Tell us more… who is @desireedeliamua and what are you most proud of? (Desireé) I am a woman rewriting her rules. I am a lover of beauty who enjoys finding meaning in all the things she does. I’m most proud of my accomplishments that have come from the work I’ve done behind closed doors. I’m proud of the level of determination I bring into my days and the opportunities that has brought me. (SISS) Finish this sentence, I have a dream… ? (Desireé) and I am dedicated to achieve it (SISS) What makes you the happiest? What is fun for you? (Desireé) Being on vacation and spending time with my family. I love building memories with my niece and nephews, they grow so fast I don’t want to miss out on anything. What is fun for me? Being in the studio creating art/new work with my friends. Practicing my guitar. (SISS) How do you deal with disappointment? How do you Keep Going? (Desireé) Dealing with disappointment is not easy for anyone but I’ve found what works for me is allowing myself the time and space to process what I’m going through and feel my way out of it which is moving me forward. I think it’s important to remind ourselves that it IS ok to rest, regroup and nurture ourselves without feeling the pressure that we must constantly see the proof that we’re doing something. (SISS) What is your superpower? (Desireé) Aside from being able to fly through space? I’m very good at putting people at ease. This is especially helpful with strangers who need to trust me with helping them put their best face forward. A small magical mix of candor and empathy goes a long way. (SISS) Finish the sentence, my life has gotten so much better since… ? (Desireé) I learned the true meaning of letting go of the things I cannot control and actually applying that into my daily life (SISS) Can you tell us four things people might not know about you? (Desireé) (1) My biggest pet peeve is when people suck in their snots (I can’t with sound. I can hear the sniffle sound in my mind now eekk) It’s like nails on a chalkboard to me. (2) I’m a vegetarian. (3) I grew up being a performer (Dancer & Vocalist). (4) I say daily affirmations. (SISS) Can you tell us where else can our readers follow your daily inspiration? (Desireé) My main social platform is Instagram but I am on Twitter, Facebook, and Youtube with @desireedeliamua or they can follow my latest project The Beautydex on IG @thebeautydexproject which is all about inspiring the female boss. (SISS) What’s your favorite quote? (Desireé) Everything is figureoutable. (SISS) At Smart is so sexy we love to see women who are thriving in their career or business. What are you most passionate about? (Desireé) I am most passionate about teaching, helping and connecting with people around the world through my makeup work but more deeply being a part of the process that inspires people to try something they might not have before or to follow their dreams. (SISS) Who was the most influential person in your life and why? (Desireé) I think the most influential person in my life is my sister! We are so different but also the same. I value her opinion and appreciate her feedback on all the things and people going on in my life. She’s the only other person in the world who has the same parents, the same childhood experiences, she literally knows everything about me. (SISS) Where were you five years ago? What advice would you tell your five years younger self? (Desireé) Five years ago, I was working somewhere that helped me affirm the kind of work I truly wanted to do in my life. The advice I would give my younger self is very similar to the advice I’d give myself now: Don’t force yourself into a situation that isn’t right or authentic. You know yourself better than anyone so trust that. Make sure that everything you do day in and day out, big or small, are things that will get you a little closer to where you want to be. No matter what just keep going! (SISS) Can you take us through a typical day? From Waking up to going to bed, Can you give us a play by play of a typical day for you? (Desireé) So a typical day as of late looks like me waking up around 7:30A going to the bathroom then running back into the bed to snuggle a little longer while I read the news, check my emails, and look on Insta. Then I’ll get up, make a coffee (cream no sugar) say my affirms and get ready. Depending upon what I’m working on that day I’ll either head into the city or work on things from my apartment. I usually have lunch around 1ish and will either pick up where I left off with work, head out for an appointment, work out, have a guitar lesson, meet for evening meetings or events, facetime my sister and the kids, stalk Instagram by then its dinner time and I’ll usually hang out with my roommate being silly or relaxing get ready for bed and do it all over again. (SISS) What is your favorite book and/or the latest one you’ve read? (Desireé) The latest book I’ve read was Thrive – The Third Metric to redefining Success and Creating a Life of Well-Being, Wisdom, and Wonder by Arianna Huffington. It's quite an aspirational note. Highly recommend! (SISS) What would be a good theme song for your life? (Desireé) Indie Arie - Because I am Queen (SISS) When do you feel the sexiest? (Desireé) I feel sexiest at the end of the night, getting ready for bed, alone with my thoughts, with my skincare routine, and really being able to look in the mirror, with a sincere reflection of gratitude towards what I have in my life. (SISS) Is there someone on social media that inspires you and is a great follow? (Desireé) The things that inspire me today on social media are travel, earth, animal, and quote accounts. I really want to go to Bora Bora so looking at it keeps me thirsty but I find that as I’m becoming more clear with my intentions and maturing as a woman I’ve been turning here for inspiration rather than looking at someone. (SISS) What does Smart is so Sexy mean to you? (Desireé) Being authentically yourself and owning it without apology. The good, the bad, & the ugly because things don’t define me. (SISS) Thank you Desireé you are awesome, Keep Going #SISS
