Get Fit or Die Trying is Very important to us and we interviewed Kim Colon to help share her journey with us. "Remember you are always Stronger than you think you are" - Kim Colon
(SISS) Hi Kim, We met you on Instagram and we love your journey. Do you remember that moment or day you decided to start this journey? Can you take us through that moment, that decision-making? I remember the moment I decided to lose weight...both my kids wanted to go to the pool, school had just let out for summer and I had yet to put a bathing suit on. When I did put that suit on, I fell apart looking at a half version of my former self. At that moment I took my "before" photos and vowed to change my habits from that day on. (SISS) What was your fitness goal for yourself? My fitness goal was to do it the healthy way, not the fastest way! (SISS) What was the hardest part losing weight? The hardest part of losing weight is getting through those first few months of working out, carrying that weight & being SO out of shape leaves you frustrated & in tears during workouts!
(SISS) What are you enjoying the most about your new body? I'm enjoying feeling comfortable in my own skin to wear a bikini on the beach. I'm enjoying having tons of energy to keep up with both my daughters.
(SISS) How long did it take you to lose 40 pounds? And how did you do it? It took about 8 months to lose 40 pounds, at first I was only doing cardio then I added in weight training and lost even more body fat and gained more muscle. I completely changed my diet & stopped drinking Starbucks, cut out sugar & sodium. (SISS) Can you take us through a typical day for you? When you wake up until you go to bed, a play by play? A typical day for me: *Wake up drink 1/2 cup grapefruit juice (I squeeze it myself) *Do 30 minutes of fasted cardio *Eat breakfast (2 eggs with yolk, 2 pieces of bacon, bulletproof coffee) *Run around with the kids doing whatever activities that are planned *Lunch (1/2 chicken breast, 1 cup broccoli & 1/4 cup brown rice, water) *2nd workout 1-hour weight training 40 minutes cardio *Dinner whole-wheat pasta with light fresh tomato sauce with chicken & veggies *I'm not a huge snacker, sometimes I'll eat some light popcorn or a Greek yogurt with fruit
(SISS) What is your advice to someone on how to begin? How to start a journey like yours? Beginning the journey is the hardest, you just have to commit to a new lifestyle & never go back, get rid of all the junk food in your pantry and stick to the grocery store perimeters & the more fresh the better! Workout at least 3x's a week
(SISS) On Social media, where do you spend time the most? (Facebook, twitter, instagram, or snapchat) How much have instagram or social media helped you? I spend the most Time on Instagram when I first decided to lose the weight I made a fitness page to keep myself accountable and to follow others to get inspiration for myself, it actually really, really helped being able to share my journey and have others watch what I was going through. (SISS) For you what is the percentage when it comes to Cardio, diet, and strength training? (Example 20% cardio, 50% diet, 30% Strength Training) Diet is literally 80% I often take weeks off at a time from working out and if my diet is right I don't gain any weight at all and it's no setback, your diet is #1 in your fitness journey, working out comes second!
(SISS) Is there any celebrity or fitness person that you admire or would love a body like theirs? I've always followed Emily Skye for motivation, she's so positive, uplifting, supportive of other females & she's never afraid to be herself and make others laugh. Her transformation photos are epic & shows you what's possible for the female body through weight training & diet!
(SISS) Why is Get fit or die trying important to you? Get fit or die trying is so important just to have the energy for those around you who love you and want you to be around for a really long time.
